siba14 Discovery Show, Sept 19-21, Norfolk, VA

The BIBB Pick – "Bibb's Independent Bookstore Best of 2015"

Is your store warm, welcoming, inclusive, and knowledgeable, always with a smile?  If yes, get thee to #SIBA14!

This 2014 Bibb Pick is posthumously Matt Bibb., and we welcome his mother to this years’ show in Norfolk, VA.  Who will be 2015’s Bibb Pick?  Come to #SIBA14 to ensure that your bookstore appears on the ballot, and register before Sep. 1 because only stores registered before the Sep. 1 cut-off will be placed on the ballot and authors will vote while on-site at the show and the winner will be named at the end of the Trade Show along with the Raffle Winner and the Book Award Display Winner.  It could be your store!

Going forward authors attending SIBA will vote for a store attending SIBA.  The store with the most votes will become the Bibb Pick for that upcoming year where over 100 authors will be promoting and supporting that Bibb Pick for that year.  This kind of support cannot be bought.  It can only be attained my attending the SIBA Trade Show and best representing the qualities of Matt Bibb:  warm, welcoming, inclusive, knowledgeable, and always with a smile.

When authors vote, they will also commit to a form of support from putting the store name in a novel to writing an original piece for the store newsletter, from joining your store as a staff pick to making a donation to the fund that will bring the store staff to the next years’ SIBA Show.  This is an exciting new component inspired by Matt and initiated by an anonymous author who wants to ensure that Matt’s spirit remains at the trade show.

Finally, in commemoration of Matt Bibb (whose love for books was only surpassed by booze), Workman Publishing will be sponsoring a unique SIBA Show drink – “The Bibb” in celebration of both Matt Bibb’s memory and their new title – The 12 Bottle Bar.  Matt would have loved that book and his drink!  Here’s to Matt!

Get thee to #SIBA14!

ClareyThe Binc Foundation was able to assist Clarey Rudd, a career independent bookseller, facing the possibility of losing his bookstores. He and his family have been in the book business for decades supporting the communities of Ventura and Malibu, CA. In August 2012, Clarey needed to have emergency surgery to help him breathe after complications from cancer caused his throat to close to the size of a small wire. Clarey made a full recovery, but was inundated with medical bills. A new video tells Clarey’s story and how the Binc Foundation was able to help eliminate the stress of overwhelming medical bills so Clarey could move forward and again focus on his love of books and bookselling. At the 2013 SIBA Trade Show, over 150 authors contributed to a SIBA effort to thank her core indie bookstores.  Each member bookstore received this week a limited edition, original, roll of wrapping paper that features the authors’ signature.  A limited number of additional rolls are still available.  Priced for the public at $24.99 per roll, each roll wraps six books and will add a unique feature to your gift-giving.  It is SIBA’s hope to be able to provide a unique line of wrapping paper available only through and for southern indie bookstore members going forward but a demand must be established in order to get the price down.  So if you’d like a unique one-of-a-kind look for your book gift-giving, email This email address is being protected from spambots.
