Discovery Show Author Submission Guide
 

Call for Authors:

  • The newest titles are considered first for author appearances.
  • The majority of the slots are filled by authors of books that pub in the Fall of 2020 and the Winter of 2021. Only titles that are represented on the exhibit floor are featured.
  • Balance is achieved by having authors of contemporary fiction, nonfiction, biographic and childrens' content as well as celebrity authors. Suggested authors will also be considered as speakers for panels and readings and other events.
  • An administrative fee will be charged for each confirmed author at the SIBA Discovery Show. Sponsors are not charged these fees.
  • Please submit your suggestions via the form found at the bottom of this page, or email (lindamarie@sibaweb.com) or fax (309-410-0211). The deadline is June 15.

  • Beloved Sponsors of the Discovery Show do not pay author confirmation fees.

Publishers & Authors: Please note that SIBA strives to build the best show possible and that our featured author slots go to the newest books first and come from exhibiting entities only. Books that are newly published in the fall of 2020 and the winter of 2021 are considered before any other titles.

GLOSSARY OF EVENTS:
Friday Events

Author Panels: We plan panels around topics for which we have titles but we always try to do both a Children & Young Adult author panel. In years past we have had panels around State Books, History, Hideous & Haunting, and Book Club Reads.

  • Any author on a panel should prepare to talk for no more than ten minutes and participate in a Q&A.
  • All authors who appear on panels on will sign their books at the SignAround from 5-6 pm.
  • 50 books are required plus a $499 confirmation fee.

Kick-Off Author Lunch: This lunch is from Noon – 1:45 PM and often features up to 5 authors. Expected attendance is 180. Authors pre-sign 180 books.

  • Featured authors should speak for no more than 12 minutes.
  • In addition to the pre-signed books, a $999 confirmation fee is required.

The First 180 Days Party: is modeled on the ABA's successful Winter Institute Author Reception only all of the authors have new books coming in the first half of 2021.

  • This is a signing event limited to 25 authors.
  • 60 galleys are required and there is a $599 confirmation fee author.

SIBA Supper: This supper is from 7 – 9 PM, and features up to 5 authors. Expected attendance is 200.

  • Authors at this event will pre-sign 200 books.
  • Featured authors should speak for no more than 12 minutes.
  • A $1099 confirmation fee is required.

Late Night Event: In special cases, we will feature an author of some standing at this Late Night opportunity from 9:30–10:30 PM. In the past, we have featured Gloria Gaynor, Marlo Thomas, Al Franken, Waylon Jennings. We offer this option only if the author is a good fit.

  • There is a $599 confirmation fee, and we do require 100 books.

Saturday Events

Breakfast Opportunities: In most cases, the Breakfasts are sponsored by a publisher. Interested publishers should contact wanda@sibweb.com for more details. Breakfasts are scheduled from 7:30-9 AM.

  • In the event it is not sponsored, the confirmation fee is $899
  • 175 pre-signed books are required.

Southern Lunch: This lunch is from 1:30 – 2:30 PM and often features up to four authors. Expected attendance is 170.

  • Authors pre-sign 170 books.
  • Featured authors should speak for no more than 15 minutes.
  • In addition to the pre-signed books, a $999 confirmation fee is required.

Parapalooza: takes place between 5:45-6:45 PM. Authors are invited to read, with meaning, feeling, and enthusiasm, a single favorite hand-picked paragraph from their book.

  • 75 books are required and a $599 author confirmation fee.

Supper / Readers Dinner: This supper is from 7-9 PM, and features up to 5 authors. Expected attendance is 200.

  • Authors at this event will pre-sign 200 books.
  • Featured authors should speak for no more than 12 minutes.
  • A $1099 confirmation fee is required.

Movable Feast of Authors: This is the finale of the SIBA Discovery Show and runs from Noon – 2 PM. This event includes 15-20 authors at 15-20 tables. The authors rotate from table to table visiting with booksellers over the time span. This is a great event for all involved and is sponsored by Inkreadible Sponsor, Bookazine.

  • 100 books will be signed from 2-3 pm and a $699 confirmation fee is required.
