NVNR PUBLICITY SPEED DATING: PUBLICIST AND PUBLISHER INVITATION
February 29, on Zoom
Meet booksellers from NAIBA and SIBA and hear about all the unique events they host in their stores. This virtual event begins at 9:30 am and ends at around 4:00 pm, with a lunch break. Publicists will receive access to the publicity kits and a complete list of stores attending. There is no cost to attend.
Both morning and afternoon shifts are available. Publicists are expected to be online for the duration of your chosen shift(s) and on camera at least some of the time so booksellers can see you.
Both SIBA and NAIBA have seen a surge in new bookstore members over the past year. Both organizations are strongly encouraging new stores to attend Publicity Speed Dating to introduce themselves to their publisher partners.

NVNR EXHIBITS: RESERVATIONS & AUTHOR SUBMISSIONS OPEN
New Voices New Rooms, the joint NAIBA and SIBA conference, is now accepting reservations for exhibits and has opened its call for authors for its 2024 conference. NVNR 2024 will return to Arlington, Virginia Thursday through Sunday, August 8-11 and will feature a larger exhibit hall, more author placements, and expanded options for exhibitors to put their books in front of booksellers.
The move to weekend dates is designed to draw in seasonal and smaller stores with more flexible weekend schedules. NAIBA and SIBA will also increase the number of travel grants awarded to bookstores to offset the expense of attendance, as well as bring back day-pass opportunities. New for 2024:
- Exhibitors allowed extra tables. On-site exhibits and sponsorships allow exhibitors to add up to two extra tables above what is already included.
- More author placement in the program. The program for 2024 includes extra author receptions and author panel opportunities.
- More Editor Spots at Our Editors Buzz Reception. NVNR expanded space for more editors at one of last year’s most popular events
- More Region-specific programming focusing on dedicated NAIBA and SIBA markets.

Call for Authors for SIBA’s 2024 March Madness!
Nine bookstores, eight states, and everyone’s a winner at SIBA’s March Madness!
SIBA's popular March Madness Event series returns for 2024! Nine SIBA bookstores across eight states will host one-day gatherings that include bookseller education, a meet-the-author luncheon, networking, and idea shares on what’s working at attendees' stores. Events are within two to three hours driving distance from a majority of our member stores, and take place over a three week period.
SIBA March Madness programs receive exceptional and enthusiastic engagement from booksellers. Over 100 booksellers participated in last year's series, which received month-long promotion from SIBA. We’re so excited to offer this range of programming to our booksellers and would love your authors to be part of it.
Would you like one of your authors to present at a luncheon?
Submit an author here: Call for Authors
Sponsorship cost is $699 and includes:
- Author luncheon presentation to booksellers
- eBlast to over 700 SIBA booksellers promoting author event/book (value $399)
- In-line banner ad in consumer-facing Southern Bookseller Review newsletter (over 7k subscribers) promoting author’s book (value $299)
Host stores and locations below. If you’re touring your author this spring, one of these stores might already be on your radar for an event or conveniently nearby.

March 5: Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh, NC
March 6: novel. in Memphis, TN
March 12: Blue Cypress Books in New Orleans, LA

Exhibit space at NVNR 2023 is nearly sold out, but there are still opportunities for publishers to put their books in front of the booksellers attending the show:
Virtual Studio: puts your company and products in the online enhanced NVNR Exhibitor Directory, which stays active as a bookstore resource until the end of the year. All fees from Virtual Studios go towards bookseller scholarships. Cost is $1000
Register via NAIBA here (Choose the "Virtual Package" option)
Genre Lists: A brand new, key element in NVNR’s focus on title discovery, Genre Buzz roundtable sessions will be driven by bookseller participation. Each of sixteen featured genres will include a title list handout with up to 100 books, and a corresponding Edelweiss collection link.
Fee is $50 per title; title must fit the genre it is is listed in; title must also be listed on Edelweiss.
Sign up here (select "Genre Lists"):
Welcome Bag: Get Your Product into the Hands of Every Bookseller at NVNR! Place an item in the show bag handed out to booksellers at our welcome desk.

Readers of the Last ARC Galley Room: Companies can add books and nonbook items to the virtual Readers of the Last ARC Galley Room. The virtual galley room has been one of the most popular elements of NVNR. It is open to bookseller attendees (and only bookseller attendees), who can build their list of requests for as long as NVNR is open. Publishers and Vendors receive a detailed spreadsheet of the booksellers with their requests after the show. No need to ship books ahead of time. If you want to get your books into the hands of indie booksellers, this is fast and inexpensive way to do so.
Cost is $50 per title.

The SIBA and NAIBA partnership of New Voices New Rooms(NVNR) will be hosting an orientation for exhibitors on Zoom on Wednesday, July 12 at 1 PM Eastern.
NVNR hosted successful virtual conferences during the pandemic. 2023 will be the first in-person event for the partnership, which will attract booksellers from most of the eastern seaboard and the gulf coast. The in person program features innovative programming, including the launch of Genre Buzz, the bookseller-led tour through forthcoming books in sixteen different categories.
The Orientation will take exhibitors through the show, including what to expect on the exhibit floor, networking opportunities in the schedule, what's new for 2023, and what will be familiar from past NVNR events.
Publishers and vendors who are not exhibiting are invited to attend as well, to hear about opportunities for non-exhibiting companies who will not be on site.
Register for the Orientation

New Voices New Rooms (NVNR), the virtual event platform created by the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) and the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association (NAIBA) goes live in 2023 with an in-person conference August 7-10 in Arlington, Virginia. The conference will take place at the Crystal Gateway Marriott, a four-star hotel located just one mile from Reagan National Airport (DCA), two miles to Washington, DC, and directly connected to the Crystal City Metro station.
NVNR brings its reputation for innovation to its first in-person show, with a reimagined emphasis on publisher-bookseller connections, title discovery, and new ways for publishers of any size to participate in the show.
What's new?
-
A lively exhibit space designed for engagement and bookseller-publisher interaction: new title discovery options without competing programming elsewhere.
-
"Untethered" opportunities for publishers that don’t require a table purchase to place your books and your branding at events with highly engaged booksellers.
- The ability to customize your registration package with a la carte options to meet your specific goals.
- Both Single-Day and Full-Event passes, meals included.
- A schedule with time built in for bookseller/publisher networking to keep booksellers in the hall and in front of your books.
- Unscheduled evenings to give publishers and booksellers space to make their own plans with each other.
Exhibit hall space and programming opportunities are limited. Register early!
See the full list of options at NVNR | See the schedule
Publishers and Vendors, register on the NAIBA website here:
https://www.naiba.com/events/2023-annual-conference
(You will need to create an account, but you do not need to be a member to register)

One of SIBA's most visible promotions is also an often overlooked opportunity: the SIBA newsletter banner, which puts your product in front of readers who are already predisposed to open and read the email. Newsletter banners are a good choice for publishers seeking to extend the momentum of a title or a promotion, and a good substitute option if the dates you want for an eblast promotion are not available, or if you have a late addition that needs quick action.
SIBA sends out two newsletters each week. In the Land of SIBA is our industry-targeted newsletter of news for booksellers about important SIBA programs and events. It has a circulation of about 3000.
The Southern Bookseller Review is our consumer-targeted newsletter, featuring book reviews from SIBA booksellers. Its direct circulation is about 6500 and also received extensive social media support.
Newsletters have an advantage over eblasts because subscribers have opted in to receive them and already expect there will be useful information in the email. So they are already prepared to look at and read the message.
SIBA newsletters receive high engagement from readers -- regularly showing open rates of 50% or higher, and click-through rates of 8%-10%.
See the stats report for the two most recent newsletters: SIBA Newsletter | The Southern Bookseller Review
Newsletters each have two header banners and two inline banners available:
- Header banners are larger, appear at the top of the newsletter, above the masthead, and are the first thing readers see. Cost is $399/issue
- Inline banners are smaller and appear between the lead articles, always in the top half of the newsletter. Cost is $299/issue.
Visit SIBA's Ad Specs page for more details and to order. Or contact Nicki Leone at nicki@sibaweb.com for questions about scheduling and format.
