Ordering is now open for the SIBA Holiday Catalog!
This year SIBA has joined four other regional associations: NEIBA, GLIBA, MIBA, and NAIBA in RAMP -the regional association marketing partnership -- to produce our 2020 SIBA Holiday Catalog. By joining in with the collective bargaining
power of other regional associations, SIBA has been able to create a robust catalog featuring many new publishing partners. There has been a strong commitment to including diverse titles by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color
authors, and an active attempt to include books that are receiving strong bookseller support and buzz. (Much of the latter comes from the reviews booksellers post in Edelweiss, so if you aren't doing that, start now!)
Deadline to place your orders is August 7! The Target date for Catalog delivery is November 1 Questions: Suzanne Shoger suzanneshoger@gmail.com
If you’re a buyer or event coordinator, get this event on your calendar! Join us to hear editors from Macmillan present three books each: one that’s currently on sale, one featured Fall title, and one scheduled far out,
but exciting to share with booksellers now.
The Editors:
George Witte, St. Martin's Publishing Group Bryn Clark, Flatiron Books Lindsey Hall, Tor Ruoxi Chen, Tor Wes Adams, Macmillan Children's Publishing Group
The panel will be moderated by Dominique R. Jenkins, Senior Manager, Author Events & Services at Macmillan, with help from reps Jeff Willmann and Carin Seigfried. Macmillan will
welcome a lively Q & A from booksellers after the presentations.

Cinderbiter by Martin Shaw, Tony Hoagland
July, 2020 Reviewed by Zach Claypole White, Flyleaf Books, Chapel-Hill, NC
On Edelweiss
A remarkably unique book, Cinderbiter veers between poetry and folklore, between the old and the new. Its language flows with the currents and energy of contemporary verse, yet carries itself with the sprawling grace of
a ballad. From emotive lyric poems to heroic epics, from its titular hero to Merlin himself, Cinderbiter is a rediscovery and reinvigoration of classic literature. Just as importantly, Cinderbiter stands strong
as an outstanding collection of poetry.
Desert Notebooks by Ben Ehrenreich
July, 2020 Reviewed by Ben Groner, Parnassus Books, Nashville, NC On Edelweiss
Intelligent and wide-ranging, this book is brimming with mythologies, climate science, the musings of anthropologists and philosophers, all woven together with Ehrenreich’s personal experiences in the American Southwest. And the
owls, oh, I'll never think about owls the same way again. A paean to the desert, as well as a spirited exploration of time, writing, culture, memory, and progress, he ponders how others have seen this singular world, and how
we should live within our present political and geological moment.
The Patient by Jasper DeWitt
July, 2020 Reviewed by Brent Bunnell, Fiction Addiction, Greenville, SC On Edelweiss
This is a thriller of the highest order with some twists and turns that will have you scratching your head. Some very creative writing will stop you dead in your tracks at one point with a total "Wait, What???" moment,
that may even force you to backtrack a few chapters just to see how you didn't see that one coming. It's a new take on the concept delivered by Stephen King's classic "Misery" from some years ago, but with some very
different twists and turns. This book makes for some exciting and compelling reading and should definitely be added to your summer reading list!
Ghost Wood Song by Erica Waters
July, 2020 Reviewed by Cailey Neuschaefer, Bookmarks, Winston-Salem, NC On Edelweiss
This is a ghost story - but not the kind you're thinking of. Shady Grove has always had two constants in her life - ghost and bluegrass - and her daddy was able to master both with his fiddle. However, Shady's daddy died four years
ago, and his fiddle was lost with him. Shady's left well enough alone, but when her brother is accused of murder, she knows her only option is to speak to the dead...or risk losing even more of her family. I particularly enjoyed
the interweaving of a love triangle chock with bisexual panic that did not swallow up the story itself. Waters has woven a lush, haunting debut that will linger with you as closely as Shady's ghosts. My only wish was that her
wide array of side characters had more development - but if we truly are blessed with a follow-up, hopefully we can see more of Shady's motley crew of unlikely friends and allies.
