NVNR Next Week: Social Media Retreat Program Details
If you haven't registered yet for the NVNR Social Media Retreat,
there is still time! Registration remains open through the weekend. Registered attendees will receive their unique login links beginning Friday, March 19th.
Two important steps to do in preparation for next week’s event:
Create a Canva account if you don’t already have one. Canva is a free app and using it will be an important part of the skills you learn at the Social Media Retreat.
Look through the assets you will be using during the program. Registrants will receive a link to graphics for promoting books provided by the publisher sponsors of the Social Media Retreat. We’re very grateful for their
support and their belief in the importance of indie booksellers. By registering, all event attendees have agreed to share social media posts for the books by our sponsors.
Each day’s program focuses on a specific social media platform. The mornings are devoted to workshops and panels. Then there is an Author Panel Lunch from one of the sponsoring publishers, followed by an afternoon of breakout
sessions for a specific social media platform. Attendees can join the regular or advanced breakout room, or the “ideas free for fall” room.

In Brief: Storm Relief from Binc
As this edition of SIBALAND goes to press, much of the southeast is under severe weather and tornado warnings for the next 24 hours. Binc contacted SIBA to ask us to remind booksellers that they stand ready to help in case of emergency.
The Foundation may be able to help owners or employees with personal household expenses related to a natural disaster. In addition, Binc can assist with expenses directly related to the store in certain cases. Here are a few ways that
the Binc Foundation may be able to help.
1. If displaced employees need financial assistance to move into a new or temporary residence and are unable to cover the associated expenses, the employee can apply for assistance. 2. If any employee lost more than
50% of their weekly work hours due to the severe weather and this is causing a financial hardship, they qualify to apply for assistance. 3. If your store is damaged and must close due to the storm, we may be able to help
with certain expenses to help you reopen more quickly.

Even after all these years it isn't easy to get the people who worked at Bletchley Park during the War to talk about what they did. Historical novelist Kate Quinn discovers this is true even when the people you are talking
to are characters in your own book. "We all found ways of coping," one of them finally admits, "or else you’d end up in the infirmary on a three-day
rest crying your eyes out."
Quinn, who had a medievalist for a mother, a jazz musician for a father, and -- fun fact -- studied Opera in college, has been slowly joining the modern world in her fiction. Her novels range from the sacking of Troy to the
French Revolution. Her last three books, including the bestselling novels The Alice Network and The Huntress, are set in the theaters of two world wars. Known for her female-centric and character-driven
historical fiction, Quinn has earned the devotion of bookseller fans no matter what epoque she chooses to write in.
What booksellers are saying about The Rose Code
But even more amazing were the three characters that came to life in the pages of this book. If they were typical of the majority of women who worked at Bletchley Park, then no wonder historians say their efforts and work shortened
the war by at least two years. A must read for anyone who loves character driven historical fiction. --Nancy McFarlane, Fiction Addiction in
Greenville, SC
Quinn weaves an engrossing tale of highly stressful complicated secretive work. Things go awry. There are issues and security breaches that involve these three so that friendship is lost and they become angry and estranged.
And then there is betrayal! It is a riveting read and a mystery that must be solved. --Stephanie Crowe, Page and Palette,
Fairhope, AL
Kate Quinn cleverly juxtaposes the Bletchley Park war years with a twelve-day countdown to the 1947 royal wedding of Philip and Elizabeth, making for a compelling tale. The novel is chocked full of complications and intrigue
and is a thrilling piece of literature. --Beth O'Brochta, Book No Further in Roanoke, VA
You know those books that you start reading and Cannot. Put. Down?? This is definitely one. With so many WWII books out there, Kate Quinn manages to put a fresh spin on the war with The Rose Code and makes you feel
like you're reading something new. -- Mary Patterson, The Little Bookshelf, Midlothian, VA
About Kate Quinn
Kate Quinn is a New York Times bestselling author of historical fiction. A lifelong history buff, she has written eight historical novels, including the bestselling The Huntress, The Alice Network,
the Empress of Rome Saga, and the Borgia Chronicles. All have been translated into multiple languages. She and her husband now live in San Diego with two black dogs named Caesar and Calpurnia.
Lara has been crushing on Chase since she was a little girl. Now it’s senior year and he’s finally noticing her. But on the first day of school, in walks Lara’s summer friend/romance Jasmine–in town to stay.
Lara’s into Chase, but she also can’t forget about Jasmine. What’s she going to do now? I loved how we not only get a questioning bi-romance, but also get some good friendship dynamics in Cool for the Summer.
If you’re looking for a light summer read that also manages some heavy emotions in a Grease vibe, look no further!

This book about Scott Joplin is beautifully written and even more beautifully illustrated. I loved the historic details, like the inclusion of the real 1911 sheet music cover of “Maple Leaf Rag”! Scott Joplin is
an iconic part of American music history and every child deserves to know his story.
