fiscal, and daily operations of Charis Circle. E.R. reads everything from poetry and essays to horror and how-to, but they are a sucker for gritty stories gracefully told. When not running around Charis, E.R. loves reading,
writing, taking care of his dogs, playing in the woods, and learning about classic cars and trucks.
Julia R. Davis
Julia Davis took ownership of The Book Worm Bookstore, Powder Springs, GA in November 2020 when the former owner retired. Ms. Davis’ passion for promoting self-love and literacy has become the foundation that The Book
Worm stands on. Julia also hosts a series of children’s events, appropriately titled “I Love ME!” designed to encourage children to love themselves as they are. In February 2014, Ms. Davis published her
first children’s book “I Love me because….I’m DIFFERENT.” Currently, there are EIGHT published picture books ONE Chapter Book, and various self-love items in the continually growing I LOVE
ME! Book Series.
Janet Geddis
Janet Geddis (she/her) is a business owner, writer, speaker,
and community leader. The owner of Avid Bookshop in Athens, Georgia, Janet is involved with regional and national book industry organizations, presenting at least twice a year at conferences and volunteering her time for advisory
boards. She began her first term on the SIBA Board in 2018. Known for her inventiveness (she was the first bookstore owner to use crowdfunding to gather some startup funds in 2010!) and positivity, Janet volunteers
in Athens and in the book world whenever possible. Recently she and Avid were featured in a WebMD film, a Facebook video series,
and even a one-on-one interview with Stacey Abrams.
She is a contributor to podcasts and radio programs, including shows on Georgia Public Broadcasting and NPR.
Candice Huber
Candice Huber (they/them) is a sixth-generation New Orleanian who owns New Orleans’ only queer-owned and genre focused bookstore, Tubby & Coo’s Mid-City Book Shop, named after their grandparents. They established TALES
Publishing in 2018, which has thus far published three books. They are also a writing, editing, publishing, and virtual event consultant and host The Writers’ Forum on WRBH Reading Radio, focusing on interviewing science
fiction and fantasy authors. Candice serves on the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee and the Science Fiction & Fantasy Task Force for the American Booksellers Association and is helping to develop the Store Operations
module for the new Bookseller Certification program. They are an avid genre fiction reader, board game player, and nerd.

the work of local and regional fiction and non-fiction authors. After working in journalism and public relations Doloris spent 20-plus years in corporate marketing and non-profit management. Her stint as executive director for
the Botetourt Chamber of Commerce piqued her interest in owning her own business. Doloris has volunteered with a number of local non-profits and currently serves on the board of Blue Ridge Literacy. She also writes for regional
publications and maybe, one day, will finish one of the three novels she has underway.

PNBA is hosting an event with Sara Blanchard and Misasha Suzuki Graham, the team behind the Dear White Women podcast, who just so happen to have a book of the same name on the way: Dear White Women: Let’s Get (Un)comfortable Talking About Racism.
Wednesday, 8/11 at 10 AM Pacific Time, 1 PM Eastern | REGISTER
The focus of the highly-rated podcast is to "get comfortable with being uncomfortable" -- navigating conversations about racism and our own complicity in perpetuating it, while avoiding the defensiveness that tends to derail
these conversations before they can really get started. The podcast website has a great collection of resources.
Listen to the episode they did with Bunny Hilliard, who recently opened Brave + Kind Bookshop in Atlanta:

What booksellers are saying about Damnation Spring
Magnificent. Rich in setting and characterization, this family saga manages to depict both environmental devastation and compassion for the men whose jobs are causing so much of it. This a fierce novel, a tender exploration of
love and loss, of people and the natural world. -- Miranda Sanchez from Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews in Chapel Hill, NC Buy from Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews
In clear compelling prose, the author creates sympathetic multidimensional characters trying to resolve dilemmas with no easy answers. We will be recommending it for fans of Richards Powers and Barbara Kingsolver. --Lia Lent from

Its really hard to know whose side to land on in this stunning compulsive novel set in the middle of 1970's Redwood country. The trees, the loggers, the townspeople, the salmon... everyone has a story and everyone is just trying
to survive. You'll think about this one a long time after you close out the final chapter. --Angie Tally from The Country Bookshop in Southern Pines, NC Buy from The Country Bookshop
This is a wholly original, riveting story of California loggers in the 1970s, desperately hanging on to their livelihoods. This will wrap readers around their fingers but leave them questioning whose side they're on. — Sarah Catherine

After Pearl Harbor, Aki Ito and her family, American citizens living in Los Angeles, are sent to Manzanar, an internment camp. Upon release, they are relocated to Chicago — they are not allowed to return to their home in Los Angeles.
Rose, Aki’s older sister, is released first, and many months later, Aki and her parents are released. Upon arriving in Chicago, they learn that Rose has died in a subway train accident and further information reveals
that she committed suicide. Aki and her parents are filled with grief and shame. Aki, who idolized Rose, knows that Rose would never kill herself, so she begins to investigate Rose’s life in Chicago. As Aki turns over
every last stone, she learns important information about herself, her sister, her new city, and her place in this country. This powerful historical mystery is well written and filled with information about the lives of Japanese
Americans during WWII. Highly recommended.

Linda-Marie: Reading:Late Migrations: A Natural History of Love and Loss by Margaret Renkl, a gorgeously written and illustrated memoir. Her meditations on the natural world, including glimpses into her family’s
history, evoke, for this reader, reflections on our finitude and ephemeral space in the universe. I’m both haunted by and attracted to her writerly gaze. So looking forward to her conversation with Wiley Cash at our Reader Meet Writer event on September 16. Listening: The Nick Drake Radio Station on Pandora.
Watching: The Heart Guy, an Australian tv show that’s a cross between Doc Martin and The Rake, absurdly funny with the occasional poignant moment.
Lucy: Reading: Once More Upon A Time by Roshani Chokshi - I snuck this one in right under the Indie Next deadline, and I’m so happy I did! This novella gave me The Princess Bride meets Stardust vibes, and it was
absolutely enchanting! Listening: Bring Your Baggage and Don’t Pack Light by Helen Ellis - This Summer Read This Next! pick was engaging enough for me to sink into and enjoy a good laugh over, and I really needed that this week.
Watching: Charmed (the reboot), Season 3 - I fell behind on this when it was airing, so I was happy to binge watch it once I discovered it had made its way to Netflix.
Nicki: Reading:Against the Loveless World by Susanna Abulhawa, The Love Songs of W.E.B. DuBois by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers, (still--it's a big book), and Terre des hommes (Wind, Sand and Stars)
by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Listening: Byrd 1588, Fretwork -- a gorgeous song collection by the English Renaissance composer William Byrd, also still, because I really love it. Watching: Many old DVDs. I'm cleaning out about ten year's worth of accumulated media from under the TV stand.
SP: Reading: Continuing with Gaudy Night, which has been a very good choice for a very hectic week. Listening: Yola's new album, Stand for Myself on constant repeat. It's amazing. She's amazing. Watching: Schmigadoon! Enthusiastically endorsed by this former 15-year-old who spent countless hours memorizing classic Broadway soundtrack albums and who can do a mean Rex Harrison ("Look at her! A pris'ner
of the gutter! Condemned by every syllable she utters!"). (edited)
