The #SIBA18 Kick-off Lunch Presents Three Exciting Voices in Literature for Young Adults and Children (Plus One Fabulous Chef)!

#SIBA18's Kick-Off Lunch on Thursday (9/13) at noon presents three exciting voices in literature for young adults and children, plus one amazing chef from North Carolina. Make time in your busy day to be inspired and eat well!

In his graphic-novel memoir, Hey, Kiddo, Jarrett Krosoczka describes growing up in a family grappling with addiction, and finding the art that helps him survive. It’s receiving rave reviews from booksellers, authors, and book reviewers. His Ted Talk “How a Boy Became an Artist” has been viewed almost a million times.

Geanna Culbertson is the author of the YA Crisanta Knight Series. “In an era of strong, original heroines like Katniss Everdeen, Tris Prior, and Clary Fray, who aren’t afraid to take on the world and shake things up, comes the story of Crisanta Knight—a girl ready and willing to tear the traditional fairytale realm a new one in favor of carving out her own destiny.” SIBA booksellers were treated to Geanna’s inspiring TED-style talk at this year’s EUREKAsiba. She’s a fabulous presenter you don’t want to miss.

William Joyce is a celebrated, award-winning author, illustrator, and filmmaker whose works include The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which was made into an animated short film and won an Academy Award in 2012. His newest book, Jack Frost, is the third picture book in The Guardians of Childhood series for young readers.

Lunch features a recipe from Jennifer Brule’s The New Vegetarian South: 105 Inspired Dishes for Everyone. In her newest book, chef Jennifer Brule brings southern-style food together with plant-based approaches to eating. Her down-to-earth style and 105 recipes will immediately appeal to vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters alike.

Brule is the executive chef and owner of the flexitarian restaurant Davidson Ice House, in Davidson, North Carolina.
