One of the most anticipated novels of the year has quickly become one of the most controversial. American Dirt received universally enthusiastic reviews from SIBA booksellers pre-publication. Phrases like "Everyone needs to read this book" and "this is the most important book of the year" were common.
But the rising push back against the book from the Latinx community--and others-- post-publication has caused some stores to re-evaluate their approach to promoting the book. SIBA would like to hear what strategies stores have in place for books that have become controversial or generated a similar push back within their own communities.
