The affinity between independent bookstores and independent publishers is a byword in the book industry, yet I’m convinced that even closer ties between us can benefit booksellers, authors, and readers, can be good for business, and can further the cause of bibliodiversity and nourish the culture of reading in this country. In order to reap those benefits, however, we need new forums and new tools; we need to think outside of the corporate box.
