ABACUS Resource Roundtable on Wednesday, 2/26!

ABACUS

Moderated by Jill Hendrix, Fiction Addiction, Greenville, SC

Join us on Wednesday, Feb 26 from 2-3PM EST for a peer-to-peer discussion on Zoom. The discussion will be moderated by Jill Hendrix, owner of Fiction Addiction, bookstore coach, and ABACUS enthusiast, having presented on ABACUS at SIBA and ABA educational programming.

ABACUS is a free annual report, sponsored by the ABA, that provides detailed information about where your store falls across a range of areas, including profitability, productivity, and financial management. Having access to the ABACUS report is like adding a financial officer to your staff; it can inform you of areas that need improvement, areas in which your store is succeeding, and everything in between. Asperfell

Galleys & Giveaways: Asperfell

Asperfell

Asperfell by Jamie Thomas
Uproar Books, Feb. 18, 2020
trade paperback, $18.50
ISBN: 9781949671063

"Wonderfully inventive... Sure to win over fantasy readers." -Publishers Weekly

Just released this week, ASPERFELL is a lavishly written gothic fantasy for YA & New Adult readers who love Jane Austen but wish she’d dabbled in blood magic.

Briony, a sharp-tongued child of privilege, grew up exploring the spirit-haunted woods surrounding her family’s country estate. When she’s arrested and sentenced to death for magic she never knew she possessed, Briony chooses to flee into the otherworldly fortress of Asperfell, where the true heir to the throne is held prisoner. But life in Asperfell is nothing like she expected, and the prince has no interest in rescue. Now, Briony must survive caged madmen and demented spirits if she hopes to convince the prince to escape back home in time to stop a civil war.

For a free review copy of ASPERFELL in paperback or ebook, please email Rick Lewis at rick@uproarbooks.com. Paperbacks are limited to the first 50 requests. For ebooks, please specify .epub or .mobi.

“Winningly combines the comedy of manners found in Regency romances with the high spirits of magical school adventure fantasies.” -Publishers Weekly

Bent Heavens by Daniel Kraus, 2/25/2020

On Edelweiss

This book has screwed me up and I mean that in the best way. It has the pacing and atmosphere of a solid thriller, the gut-churning revulsion of a classic horror novel, and the spot-on character development that comes from the best coming-of-age stories. There were times I worried I wouldn't be able to finish it because the descriptions were so well done that my reactions were visceral. Holy moly, what a book.

Coo by Kaela Noel, 3/3/2020

This is a book that you will read in one sitting. It is heartwarming and captivating. Coo was a girl who was abandoned after she was born and taken in by a flack of pigeons. When her favorite pigeon breaks his wing, she is forced to interact for the first time with people in order to get him help. Tully (who is a lover and helper of pigeons) slowly convinces Coo that she can help her and from there an unbreakable bond is formed. This story will melt your heart!

A working class family in Hawaii barely scraping by until an apparent miracle turns their world upside down. A vividly rendered exploration of the value of home, family, and tradition.
